Earthtwine® OUTDOOR Twine

Earthtwine® OUTDOOR twine was developed to meet the functional needs of crops grown outside in open fields and orchards. Without the protection and regulated, controlled environment of a greenhouse, these crops are exposed to variable and sometimes harsh conditions.

This is why we developed a compostable twine specifically for outdoor use.
Our outdoor twine is naturally UV stable and designed to withstand the variability of environmental conditions that outdoor crops are exposed to. Breakdown of the twine starts only when commercial composting conditions are met.

Earthtwine® OUTDOOR twine has a higher tensile strength than compostable twine used in protected cropping, it is abrasion resistant and has a higher dynamic strength to absorb tugging and wind gusts while supporting heavy plants.

Earthtwine® OUTDOOR twine is suitable for any crops grown in open-fields and orchards. Outdoor twine for hops come in green since it is visually less obtrusive than white twine and therefore preferred by hop growers.
The benefits of using a compostable outdoor twine like Earthtwine®:
  • Eliminate the need to dispose of used twine and plant material after harvest by converting both into valuable compost instead.  There is no need to separate used twine and plant material to achieve successful composting.
  • Avoid the enduring negative impact of conventional plastics building up and releasing microplastics into the environment.
  • Although twine made from natural fibres like coir are also compostable, they be more labour intensive to string and often take significantly longer to full compost.  Natural fibres can harbour spores and other pathogens increasing the risk of disease or contamination in the hot and humid environments.
  • Our outdoor twine is naturally UV stable and designed to withstand variations in temperature and humidity in exposed environments.  Breakdown starts only when commercial composting conditions are met.
