For cucumbers grown in commercial greenhouse conditions, using twine to support the vines, have several benefits.

Keeping the vigorous vines off the greenhouse floor reduces the risk of diseases like mildew and rot. It also aids with harvesting efficiency and makes inspection during the growing season easier with the fruit elevated. Fruit grown with twine support also tend to be straighter.

Improved air circulation and better exposure to light helps to control moisture levels on stems and leaves to minimise the risk of fungal diseases like powdery and downy mildew by reducing humidity around the vines.
